  • Require the contractor to give you a detailed specification with the estimate
  • Make sure everything is thoroughly explained so that you understand your project and the work the contractor intends to do
  • What is the contractor excluding or not performing? What are the costs?
  • Is the proposal realistic and are there any stipulations?
  • Is insurance priced in the job?
  • Does your contractor have a great understanding of your needs and/or wants?

Be Aware: The less thorough the proposal, the more risk there is of going over the budget. Make sure you know what you are paying for.
