Choose Your Contractor Carefully Print E-mail
  • Make sure your contractor is a member of a related trade association in your area
  • Make sure your contractor is a licensed contractor (if required in your area)
  • Check references and take time to meet past customers and view work performed
  • When checking references, make sure your contractor has performed jobs with similar scope of work and is capable of doing your project
  • If you aren’t working with an architect, and your project needs design or plans, choose a builder capable of this service
  • Never let price be the determining factor in choosing your contractor; all credible contractors will have similar fees or costs
  • Is your contractor financially solvent? Ask for trade references if you are unsure
  • Your contractor should be a trusted partner in this process and have your best interests in mind. If you don’t get that impression from your contractor…keep looking. You’ll be glad you did.
